(First Published in the Lawrence Daily Journal-World on the 5th of May, 2026) INVITATION FOR BIDS LAWRENCE-DOUGLAS COUNTY HOUSING AUTHORITY EDGEWOOD UNIT REMODEL The Lawrence-Douglas County Housing Authority will receive sealed bids for Edgewood unit remodel at 1600 Haskell unit 159. The scope of work and work requested for sealed bid is to convert an existing daycare unit back to 4- bedroom unit for occupancy. Work to be done will include Removal of fluorescent lighting and returning to one fixture per room. Removal of fire alarm system including wiring, signs and smoke detectors to include removal in adjacent unit. New smoke and carbon monoxide detectors will be installed per city code and should be hardwired. Remove interior wall and add approximately 8 walls to form 4 bedrooms with construction of two-bedroom closets and one storage closet and linen closet. Replace wiring to make into conforming bedrooms. One exterior door removed and replaced with a window. Dishwasher to be removed and a cabinet base to be installed. Cabinets and countertop removed for washer and dryer hookups reinstalled in their place. The bathroom will have second door removed and framed in as well as a service sink removed and add in a bath/shower unit. Second bathroom will have new toilet and vanity installed. Removing flooring and carpet with assumption of asbestos, replacing with VCT tile throughout entire unit.
