Vermont Land Trust is looking for experienced contractors to remove an old earthen dam and restore the stream and surrounding area. This project aims to improve the health and function of a tributary to the Missisquoi River. The work includes dam removal, channel reconstruction, and riparian restoration.
Vermont Land Trust (VLT) is soliciting bid proposals from qualified contractors with relevant experience for the removal of an earthen dam and associated stream and riparian restoration. The dam was built prior to 1940 to support railroad tracks which are no longer present. The goals of the project are improved stream function, flood storage, and habitat in this headwater tributary of the Missisquoi River (“the stream”). This project is located north of Bear Mountain Rd about 500 ft east of Maurice Titus Rd. The project involves the removal of an earthen dam impounding a perennial headwater tributary of the Missisquoi River, and reconstruction of a stream channel and riparian area in the former dam site using the material excavated from the dam as well as natural wood from the property. The recreated riparian system will include an approx. 6’ wide channel with log and stone grade controls. All material excavated from the dam will be disposed of on the Stone J&M property. Locations: Orleans Special Instructions: Please contact allaire@vlt.org for design plans.
